Pullman to Beaubien Woods ride
Sunday, June 12th, 10am - Historic Pullman to beautiful Beaubien Woods Bike Ride!

Starting off at Arcade Park (112th & St. Lawrence Ave.) at 10am, we'll take a leisurely, guided ride from Pullman through the former industrial areas beyond Sherwin-Williams properties to Beaubien Woods near 134th Street.

This is an easy ride from Blue Island if you take Longwood north to 115th Street. Turn right (east) on 115th. Ride all the way east to State, then go north (left) to 111th. Take 111th east (right) to the Hotel Florence where you will follow the curving path in front of the hotel to the meet up point.

Passing natural areas struggling to return amidst former industrial plants, we'll experience a peacefulness along the way while we learn about the past and present. We'll glimpse the vast Metropolitan Water Reclamation District operations before reaching the Cal-Sag Channel and Flatfoot Lake. We'll hear an update about the Asian Carp problem, learn about the surrounding waste dumps, and have a representative talk about the nature and benefits of the forest preserve.

Join with riders from the Pullman Youth Group, Active Transportation Alliance, Field Museum, Historic Pullman Garden Club, Southeast Environmental Task Force, Folks on Spokes- Calumet, Friends of the Major Taylor Trail, and the Blue Island Bike Club.

Total: about 6 miles round trip from Pullman (add about 6 miles from Blue Island if you ride); 2 1/2 hours from Pullman, (add 30 minutes each way if you ride from BI). Pack a lunch; wear your helmet. If it's raining, go back to bed!
