Short YouTube video (49 seconds) of the Friday Night Bike Crew (an offshoot of the Blue Island Bike Club), just before heading out for the parade on Sat. Dec. 3rd, 2011.
This is a notoriously difficult event to photograph, so I apologize in advance for the low quality pictures. Remember, I'm taking these in low light conditions while riding a bike myself.
We decorated for this on Friday afternoon at my garage. Several of the kids decorated their bikes at home, but most of them made it past our house between 3 pm and 6 pm. We went to town with garlands, battery operated lights, and other festive decorations.

On Saturday, we met at 4 pm at the Kiddie Korral. We had 27 kids show up! Once there, we headed over to the parade start on Western Ave at Union (city parking lot). The parade was significantly shortened this year; I have no idea why. It was *very* short as a consequence. By 5:30 pm the parade started up with music from bands such as Eisenhower's Marching Band and the District 130 Band. There were all sorts of floats as well as walking groups from various local churches, the hospital, etc.

For the Bike Club, the traditional end of the parade is at the Blue Island Public Library where we all look forward to cocoa, cookies and good music. The library is the true heart of this community!
